A Working Document

This website is the record of a 5-year project to refurbish the properties that make up the Mansfield Townscape Heritage Area and an archive of each building’s unique story. It’s a working document because through the project’s Community Participation programme, and with your help, we’ll be continuously adding new information and insights into the history of Mansfield’s townscape and amending things if we get them wrong.

Building Biographies

The buildings have been chosen for their architectural and historical importance. There’s a map showing where they all are and a dedicated page for each one where you’ll find historical background, photos, memories, and creative responses relating to that building.

You’ll learn about each building’s design and construction, about the people who owned or rented it over the years, who has lived there and what businesses they’ve run, what it was like to work there and what goods or services you could buy. And that person could be you!
